From My Sketchbook-2 Sketches

The Crow and The Faded Rose
(a tribute to Edgar Allan Poe)

oh, he of madness
living in unforgiving darkness
existing each day in sated weariness
in his world of dreariness
drifting into nothingness
nameless in his loneliness...
poor Edgar Allan Poe
quoth the raven "Nevermore"~

Note: I am a big fan of Edgar Allan Poe...

Feathers in Autumn
(Chick-a-Dee)

the marvel of flight
ebony, soft, feathered wings
free and unburdened~

  1. Your flowers and birds, and the accompanying verses, are brilliant. Love the speckled background in the second one, too. Have a good, new week! BIG hugs, Valerie

    1. Thank you Valerie.
      The speckled background happened because if you notice there is a big blotch and another smaller one not far from it where I dropped my paint brush. I get shaking spasms in my right hand. They come out of nowhere and can last a few minutes to days on end...I never know. This is why I stopped painting for about four years. Anyway, after I splotched my page I added more speckles so that the two "oops" didn't stand out like a sore thumb :}
You have a nice week, too!!!

      Big Hugs~

  2. back in village in winters i used to see many crows sitting on bare branches of trees and it always made me sad [don't know why!] but this crow on faded rose has different expressions ,there seem anger along with sadness and something more undefinable

    1. He's just being a crow/raven, that feels sorry for Edgar Allan Poe and his tragic life. He isn't filled with malice. He is just being vocal like all crows...they aren't song birds but they do love to talk to one another :)

Have a lovely day Baili. Thank you for stopping by~

    1. I know that darkness brings you comfort Lon. There are many who prefer the quiet and softness of the night to the harshness and noise that the daylight hours can bring. I love them both for different reasons.

      Thank you for visiting Lon~

  6. Beautiful paintings. I just read a fun fact about crows 'they recognize human faces and hold grudges against the ones they don't like'.

    1. Thank you Christine...
I know what you mean. I've heard that, too.
I feed "my" crows bread everyday and one is always up in our tallest tree in our woods watching for me to come out the door with their bread. Then the watch crow begins calling to all of the others to let them know that "lunch is served"!!!
We have five birdbaths that we keep filled with water for the birds in the warm months. The crows pick up a beak-full of bread and they dunk it in the birdbaths...then they pickup the soggy bread and fly off into the woods where they probably feed it to the babies :) They are magnificent raptors and I adore them~

    1. Thank you!!!
Poe was such a tragic personality and because of this his writings were macabre. Tragedy was a malady suffered by so many artists and writers of the past, as well as today I dare say~
